Paul’s words to Timothy are our primary motivation for reviewing NHC’s Doctrinal Statement. It is part of our calling to “watch the teaching” in a persistent way. To this end, we are reviewing our Doctrinal Statement, not because we are shifting our beliefs, but for three primary reasons.
- Theological accuracy: we seek to biblically reflect what we believe and teach.
- Clarity: we desire that the statement be understandable in style and language for the average church member.
- Historicity: we seek to align our statement with Christian teaching through the centuries.
What's already happened?
Over the course of 2023, a subcommittee of elders (Peter Hubbard, Matt Nestberg and Ryan Ferguson) reviewed our Doctrinal Statement. Beginning in 2024, the Elder Board began reviewing the suggested edits. Over the course of 5 months, the committee took the Elder Board feedback and created a final draft. Additionally, NHC members were asked to reread the original doctrinal statement.
