Having lived in seven states and attended six different schools by the age of 11, Jim found the sameness of the athletic field and participation in team sports to be stabilizing factors in his aloneness as a young man. After coming to Christ at the age of 16 and training for ministry in undergraduate school, God graciously allowed him to coach on the high school and college levels for nearly 30 years. His teams at Northland International University (WI) won three national championships under his tutelage. Nearly 200 of his former players are actively serving Jesus around the globe today. Maintaining contact with them is a highlight.
Jim earned a B.A. in Practical Christian Training, a B.S. in Secondary Education/Physical Education and an M.M. in Biblical Counseling. He has served as an elder since 2004 when he and his wife of 44 years, Marie, came to North Hills after serving at the Biblical Counseling Center and Harvest Bible Chapel in Chicago. Jim and Marie met at a church in Michigan in 1973 and were married that year. They have three children and eight grandchildren. When he isn’t working, Jim enjoys time with his family, reading and watching sports.
